Judy Favor, Ph.D.

In the Zone Training, Inc. CEO and founder Dr. Judy Favor is no stranger to success. She has distinguished herself as an award winning professional coach, scholar, educator, and speaker. As the lead contact and facilitator for all consulting initiatives, she has been developing high performing teams and leaders for over 25 years, first learning how to build, lead, and motivate high performing teams as an NCAA head softball coach. Her college coaching accolades include leading her teams to 5 consecutive NCAA Regionals and one Final Four, earning four Coach-of-the-Year awards, and more recently, being inducted into the Athletic Hall of Fame at three institutions. After retiring from college athletics, Favor served in a variety of leadership and faculty position roles in higher education, before turning her attention to leadership and team development teaching and consulting.
Favor's personal coaching and leadership experiences combined with academic expertise and research in leader and team development, personality, and adult learning provide a unique and practical perspective in her work with teams and leaders. She has worked with a variety of corporate, athletic, and government/military-affiliated leaders and teams as a leadership and team development consultant and coach.
Dynamic Professional Adult Educator
Favor is known for designing and facilitating interactive, practical workshops and classes that target working adults’ preferences and learning styles. She has presented on leadership and team development topics to diverse audiences and organizations throughout the United States and has developed and delivered over 100 workshops to professionals from a variety of technical and non-technical fields.
In 2019, she was named Outstanding Graduate Faculty in the School of Applied and Interdisciplinary Studies at Kansas State University in Olathe where she has developed and teaches graduate courses focused on coaching for high performance, building and leading effective teams, interpersonal communication skills, emotional intelligence, motivating employees, and conflict management.

Favor was inducted into the Athletic Hall of Fame at Columbus State University where she led her teams to 5 straight NCAA regionals, developed 6 All-Americans, 28 All-Region, 20 All Conference athletes, and finished with a 276-89 record over 7 years. She is also a member of the Southeast Missouri State University Athletic Hall of Fame and will be inducted into the Culver-Stockton College Athletic Hall of Fame in 2023. As a private softball pitching coach, her athletes have gone on to play at at numerous NCAA and NAIA institutions across the United States.

At the University of Kansas, Favor's research on the relationship between personality and coachability in NCAA D1 and D2 athletes earned “Dissertation of the Year” honors in the College of Education. Her research has been published in the Journal of Coaching Education, the International Journal of Sport Science and Coaching, the Journal of Sport Management, and Adult Learning. She has also written a mental skills workbook for athletes, Developing a Champion's Mindset: Tools to take YOUR Mental Game to the Next Level.

Laurie Harris is one of our consulting partners. Laurie excels in helping organizations manage change and teaching leaders how to effectively conduct difficult conversations with team members to increase accountability and improve performance. A certified Project Management Professional (PMP), her global and domestic teams have often been charged with implementing complex and critical projects and programs in the fast-moving technology sector. Laurie's 25-year corporate career has included leading, managing, and developing a variety of programs, projects, and teams at several Fortune 500 companies including Boeing, Jeppeson, and VMware.
A veteran program manager, Laurie has served in a variety of executive-level roles, including Chief of Staff, and possesses a unique ability to identify organizational road blocks and bring order to what others may perceive as chaos. She has mentored hundreds of emerging leaders and is a highly skilled and personable communicator and facilitator.
